San Francisco USA Flowers in San Francisco
San Francisco is world renowned for its exceptional flower industry, competing with that of Holland. Mild Mediterranean climate favours lavish vegetation, and the conditions with moderated heat and humidity are ideal for various plants. The magnificent Conservatory of Flowers is a large Victorian greenhouse with elaborate design, rotunda and pavilion roof. It is composed entirely of natural materials, remaining intact and only undergoing necessary restoration. Among them are precious California redwood and cast-iron elements. The conservatory has 16,800 window panes. The upper dome of the conservatory weighs 14.5 tons. It is the biggest wooden conservatory, retaining its original state, which is at the same time protected architectural landmark, scientific centre and spectacular garden of exotic plants.
Today the conservatory contains approximately 1,700 plant species. Its collection of high-altitude orchids - more than 700 of the 1,000 known species - is described as the largest and most comprehensive public collection in the world. The conservatory has many thematic pavilions. Representative plants from its collections include aquatic plants, featuring marvelous Victoris Regia, beautiful water lily with its huge pink flowers reaching 1 meter in diameter, carnivorous plants, various palms and other tropic species, either from rainforests or highland areas. Since 1998 the conservatory had more than 500,000 visitors.
The city has exceptional florists choice, with most exclusive flower boutiques winning top international awards. They can provide design bouquets either for high-class corporate and theatrical events, or for an unforgettable birthday. The choice suits any taste and income. Some of them are dated back to the XIX century. Among the well-known are Rossi & Rovetti, Podesta Baldocchi, FlowerPetal, FlowerHand, Amy Kee Floral Design, Pink Lotus, Jane’s Roses, The Secret Flower Garden etc. An amazing event is the Chinese Flower Mart, mixing beauty of flowers with colourful decor elements.
